1. Hand-picked blackberries from the park
2. A great book for a weekend read! Who doesn’t love a good book?
3. Nighttime swim at the pool after a 106 degree day
4. Outgoing snail mail :)
5. Seeing a Bible Story book and wonderful pamphlets at my dentist’s waiting area. Grew up reading the entire set! So wonderful to know little ones can read stories about Jesus while waiting with their parents.

One of the used books I got while at camp meeting last weekend. Such an inspiring read! I wish this was one of the required books while I was in nursing school.

The Power of a Woman’s Words by Sharon Jaynes. Ladies, this is a book I highly recommend. I bought it for the Kindle app on my iPhone early last year, and absolutely loved it! The author encourages women to use their words to build up rather than tear down.

The last three pictures are screenshots of the Table of Contents. …for those that are curious. Click on the pictures to enlarge them. They are arranged from left to right. The book also has other resources (such as a DVD, an interactive studyguide and a workbook).

Let me know what you think of the book if you decide to read it! :)

Going to GYC (Generation of Youth for Christ) on December 28 to January 1? Is your heart crying for the infilling of the Holy Spirit in your life? Then this book is for you!
This year, GYC’s theme is “Fill Me, Our Earnest Plea”.

Fill Me is an individual prayer for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Yet as God’s people, our individual prayers rise to heaven as a single plea Our Earnest Plea. We need the promised gift of the Holy Spirit. Without His indispensable infilling, we cannot faithfully stand for Jesus though the heavens fall. Without His loving guidance and power, the mission of this Generation of Youth for Christ, and of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, will not be accomplished.
[Source: Official GYC website]

The book in the picture above is one of the five books I purchased yesterday. While praying earlier today, I felt led to read this book. Sensing now would be the perfect time to read it, especially with GYC just around the corner, I was more than happy to begin reading the book. I was so blessed by the words I read I simply just had to tell you about book! It is such an incredible book that helps us prepare our hearts for the outpouring and teaching of the Holy Spirit!
This is such a great resource for anyone and everyone - whether or not GYC is in your monthly calendar. Pastor Mark Finley uses both Scripture and Spirit of Prophecy excerpts to give a clear understanding to empower readers to be a mighty witness for God. Here is one of my favorite quotes taken from pages 671-672 of Ellen White’s book, The Desire of Ages:

When He [the Spirit of truth] is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.” The preaching of the world will be of no avail without the continual presence and aid of the Holy Spirit. This is the only effectual teacher of divine truth. Only when the truth is accompanied to the heart by the Spirit will it quicken the conscience or transform the life. One might be able to present the letter of the word of God, he might be familiar with all its commands and promises; but unless the Holy Spirit sets home the truth, no souls will fall on the Rock and be broken. No amount of education, no advantages, however great, can make one a channel of light without the co-operation of the Spirit of God.

And here is another one; I’m doing my best not to quote the entire chapter! It’s a must-read and must-share quote on character transformation. The quote is from page 671 of the same book:

Sin could be resisted and overcome only through the mighty agency of the Third Person of the Godhead, who would come with no modified energy, but in the fullness of divine power. It is the Spirit that makes effectual what has been wrought out by the world’s Redeemer. It is by the Spirit that the heart is made pure. Through the Spirit the believer becomes a partaker of the divine nature. Christ has given His Spirit as a divine power to overcome all hereditary and cultivated tendencies to evil, and to impress His own character upon His church.

Powerful, isn’t it? The book is available at ABC (Adventist Book Center) stores. You may also purchase it from their online website. The regular price is $9.99. However, it is currently on sale for only $5.00!

When at the ABC

Today, my parents and I went to the winter blowout sale at the ABC (Adventist Book Center).  God is so good!  I was able to purchase a hardbound copy of Steps to Christ for my dearest Felicie.  I was so tickled by the perfect timing of it all!

While at the store, I made six new friends.  It all started with one lady that saw the soy (chicken) curls in my shopping cart.

It’s been said that “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. Such is the case with me and used books! Regardless of the age of the content, things learned through reading will always be knowledge. People like me who can’t afford to travel the world and/or go on yearly vacations very much enjoy traveling through books, magazines, encyclopedias, etc. There are countless countries to visits, experiences to be had, and classrooms to sit in…and yes, all in the pages of books. No matter how dusty or old they may be, or how worn-out their pages may be, the stories, facts and worlds of valuable content books contain will never change.

Even though I own an iPhone, I will never cease to purchase hard copy books. Why? As I recently told my bestfriend, Julie, “I love the smell of new books, the sound of pages turning, the feel of dog-eared pages…”. More importantly, hard copies - unlike the digital versions which rely on battery for power - allow endless reading times and don’t die on you. :)

Last night, I happened to be at a big local thrift store called America’s Thrift Store. Upon entering the store, I grabbed a shopping cart and headed straight to the book section. Mmmmm. :) Books! There were a lot of choices! Being at the book section of this particular thrift store makes me feel like a kid in a candy store…and much happier than I usually feel at a big library.  I went from about a dozen books, to seven, and finally four. I was most thrilled to find the Fruit of the Spirit Sabbath School lesson; I recall owning one of those last year.

Fourty-five minutes later…

Number of books purchased: four. Total cost: $8.40. Chi-chiiiing! Gotta love thrift store buys!
