Thanksgiving Reflections

Yesterday, on Thanksgiving Day, it felt like Christmas at home. I had a very Christmas-like morning. A couple minutes after waking up, I heard my sisters snickering and whispering in the hallway leading to my room. They were planning on jumping on my bed and sandwiching me until I woke up. It felt so good to share that moment with my sisters. Any day is a good day to have the innocent happiness of a child! Ever since my family and I became complete again - all five of us together - my heart has been beaming. Oh, how wonderful it is to have a beaming heart! It’s hard for all of us to be together in one place these days.

Well, I know this is a day late, but before going to bed tonight I thought I’d go over the blessings I am thankful for this year. Thanksgiving may be over, but my spirit of gratitude is still very much alive.

This year, I’m thankful for…:

  • …my/our loving heavenly Father.
  • …prayerful and supportive family and friends.
  • …getting to spend the remainder of this year with my family - I was going to move to the Philippines this year and wasn’t going to be here at this time of the year.
  • …my amazing church family.
  • …health.
  • …the wonderful privilege of being part of the music ministry at my church.
  • …new friendships formed.
  • …new friends turned into best friends, spiritual accountability partners, fellow prayer warriors and confidantes.

Collateral Circulation

During Bible study last Saturday afternoon, one of my friends (who is currently in nursing school) talked about collateral circulation. Collateral circulation takes place when an area of tissue or an organ has a number of several different pathways for blood to reach it. This usually takes place as a result of anastamoses - branches formed between adjacent blood vessels. For example, when a clot lodges itself above the external iliac artery, thereby cutting the supply of blood to the hind leg, collateral circulation finds a way to get enough blood to the leg tissues in order to keep them alive.

God’s unfailing, never-ending and often unrequited love is very much like collateral circulation. Sometimes, we unknowingly put a wall between us and God.

Just. Like. A. Clot.

This happens often. It happens when we are not ready or are scared to hear what God will do or say. It happens when we know what is right but would rather do the comfortable wrong instead of the uncomfortable right. It happens because of multiple reasons all sharing one common denominator. PRIDE.

No matter how many clots of pride we place in God’s way, He always finds a way to get His cleansing, life-giving and life-saving blood to us. His love always finds a way because…

HE. IS. LOVE.
